Tudor Launches Black Bay Professional Edition
Explore new territory with a smaller GMT.
Tudor has finally launched a more compact GMT watch, the Black Bay Pro 39mm with a fixed bezel.
The shape of the Black Bay Pro is slightly retro, but still has all the characteristics of Tudor, including a proprietary movement with a silicon hairspring and a newly developed T-Fit fine-tuning clasp.

The Black Bay Pro is the more compact Tudor GMT I've been hoping for. It has a 39mm case, like the Black Bay 58, the perfect size in my opinion. Thanks to the internal MT5652, it has a true GMT function.
It also gets a useful upgrade: the T-Fit clasp, which allows fine-tuning on the fly, a feature usually found on pricier watches.
The aesthetics of the Rolex Explorer II ref certainly deserve attention. 1655, which is a good thing (it was probably designed to wink on purpose).
Arguably, the only downside is the thickness of the case. The watch is 14.6mm tall, though not overly chunky. While the flat, vertical sides of the case do jut out of height, it doesn't feel unwieldy on the wrist.
The other only potential downside is the fixed bezel, which means the watch can't track the third time zone that might appear on standard GMT. For me, this isn't a big deal, as I've never used the third time zone feature on a GMT watch.

Still, all things considered, the Black Bay Pro is an impressive value proposition and certainly one of the best buys at the show.
The Black Bay Pro has a traditional Black Bay dial with "snowflake" hands, including a yellow "snowflake" GMT hand. Like several other Tudor watches, the luminous hands and markers come in beige tones.
But "lume" is a first for Tudor - the hour markers are actually ceramic sheets impregnated with Super-Luminova luminous coating applied to the dial. As a result, they lack the bezels that are traditionally found on Tudor dial hour markers.
The 39mm stainless steel case has a fixed bezel that is engraved and filled with black lacquer to form a 24-hour second time zone scale. This works in conjunction with the yellow hands to indicate two time zones, home time and local time.
The Black Bay Pro is powered by a Kenissi-made MT5652, just like Tudor's other proprietary movements. It has a silicon hairspring and a 70-hour power reserve.
Finally, the watch also comes with a T-Fit clasp. First seen on last year's Black Bay Fifty-8 Bronze, the T-Fit clasp features a micro-adjustment mechanism that can be adjusted up to 8mm.
